This is a cleverly written tale that allows the young reader to grasp the concept of where anger is and how to ‘let it out’ in appropriate ways. The author effectively illustrates what happens inside the body when anger is suppressed and leads the reader to understand why it is important to express all feelings in a healthy way. Following the story are several lesson plans discussion questions and reproducible worksheets that can be used by an adult to help add breadth depth and personalization to this story for children.
In this story a young girl named Sam has anger growing inside her after the break-up of her parents. She is uncomfortable and scared to ‘let out’ her angry feeling so it keeps growing. Sam tries several creative ways to hold Anger down but Anger doesn’t go away and keeps causing her troubles. Eventually Sam learns how Anger is different from her other emotions and she uses her words to appropriately let Anger out.
This book is an excellent tool for counselors therapists, teachers, mentors and parents. It can be used to help children identify and resolve some of their more intense emotions preventing them from leading happy and successful lives.
