Ages 4 & up. Recognizing the feelings of others is a vital skill for all social interaction. Although words, tone of voice, and gestures are also important, the most reliable way to learn the feelings of others is through observing facial expressions. Many children, including those on the autism spectrum, have trouble “reading” facial expressions through observation. The About Faces Game includes 52 cards with faces representing thirteen different feelings. By practicing matching the feelings and the faces, children learn to read facial expressions, which is a critical social interaction skill. There are several ways to play the About Faces Card Game to help children recognize, express, and explore their feelings and the feelings of others.
